A Win in a Draw

PictureA northeastern coyote--clearly sensing something amiss as he stares at the game camera--in a draw in the forests of Painted Post.
Perhaps, to some, it isn’t much to look at
—this little draw*--
a place to be avoided or navigated through.
Almost an afterthought.
In a place of steep ravines and waterfalls.
In a forest holding many secrets.
In an age when distraction reigns.
With the beauty of simplicity . . . lost.
Like that of many hounds before him,
Seth’s deep voice told
of scents flowing alongside this runoff stream
of stories unseen
of trails beyond human perception.
In this deceptively remarkable spot
Of crisscrossing memories.

*Interestingly, Merriam-Webster (M-W) online doesn’t show the definition for this word as used here. However, the printed, M-W Collegiate version, 11th edition, does: “a gully shallower than a ravine.”

Picture
A rare photo (a first for me anyway) to capture a coyote on the game camera during daylight hours. Is it the same fellow in the night shot above? Hard sayin'.

It's all in the eyes.
